REGS Installation & Merges for ETaC and Affected Mods

Introduction[edit]


This part of the REGS guide includes the complex installations and merges needed when using the modular version of Expanded Towns and Cities.

The modular version provides the flexibility to achieve good compatibility with Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul but noticeably increases the installation complexity. This is the most complicated part of the REGS installation. Perhaps someday it will be possible to provide the merged ETaC modular location files at a website.</center.>


This part of the REGS guide needs to be updated for the current version of ETaC and Farmhouse Chimneys.</center.>


Tools[edit]

The primary tool used for Merges is Merge Plugins. Users not familiar with this tool may find the following useful:
  • the Merge Plugins Video (by GamerPoets,
  • the SRLE instructions for Merge Plugins, and
  • A set of pictures showing the UI screens for setup of Merge Plugins
  • Support in the STEP forum for Mator's Utilities Support
  • The patches for ETaC mods are often specific to the ETaC modular plugin for a particular location. Wrye Bash is used to change the master file name for a patch plugin from the individual location plugin name to the name of the merged plugin containing all ETaC locations.
  • Merging multiple plugins that each contain navmesh records requires extra steps. First, TES5Edit is used to remove the navmesh record from the merged plugin. The Creation Kit is then used to rebuild the NAVI record. For REGS the only mods that currently need rebuilt NAVI records are ETaC and, if it is used, the LITE version of Dawn of Skyrim included with JK's Cities - Lite and SuperLite.
  • The current versions of these utilities are:
    • TES5Edit v4.0.2
    • Wrye Bash v307.beta3; typically the standalone version is used
    • Merge Plugins v.2.1.3
    • Skyrim Creation Kit, installed from the Tools menu in Steam or from a Skyrim DVD

    SkyrimEditor.ini located in the Skyrim folder is the ini file for the Creation Kit. Edit the file as needed to make sure that

    • Under the [General] section bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1 is set
    • Under the [Archive] section the SResourceArchiveList2 line should read SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa, Hearthfires.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa


    ETaC related Installations[edit]

    Farmhouse Chimneys[edit]

    After installing Farmhouse Chimneys some edits are made to the primary mod plugin based on ETaC locations being used. Unfortunately Farmhouse Chimneys does not have a version where it uses the chimneys placed by ETaC.

    Mod Installation[edit]

    Install Farmhouse 3.0.2 using Mod Organizer. If FarmhouseChimneys.esp was previously edited as per the instructions below then save the edited plugin and replace the one installed by the FOMOD with the saved one.

    WARNING:
    The current STEP Extended Patch does not include the records from the FarmhouseChimneysCRF.esp patch ; this will be fixed at some point

    Plugin Editing[edit]

  • The Farmhouse Chimney mod includes chimneys which must be removed at locations where ETaC makes changes.
  • The chimneys placed at locations changed by Expanded Towns and Villages will now be removed using TES5Edit.

  • Start TES5Edit from the Mod Organizer menu, selecting only the FarmhouseChimneys.esp plugin installed by this mod
  • Use right click-> remove to remove an item (or press del/delete key as per tips recommendation in latest TES5Edit)
  • Click on the + sign next to Worldspace to expand the records. Click on the + sign next to 0000003C to expand the records. Remove Block -2,0 to delete records for KarthwastenExterior01. Click on the + sign next to Block -1,0. Remove Sub-Block -4,2' to delete the DragonBridgeExterior02 record. Remove Sub-Block -4,0 to delete records for SoljundsSinkholeExterior Remove Sub-Block -2,1 to delete records for MorthalExterior. Click on the + sign next to Sub-Block 2,-2Bridge. Remove the 0000937C MorthalExterior05 record. Remove the 0000939C MorthalExterior03 record. Remove the 0000939D MorthalExterior04 record. Click on the + sign next to Block 0,-1. Remove Sub-Block -2,2' to delete records for Ivarstead Click on the + sign next to Block 0,0. Remove Sub-Block 0,3 to delete records for Dawnstar. Remove Sub-Block 1,3 to delete records for Dawnstar. Riemove Sub-Block 3,3 to delete records for Winterhold. Remove Block 1,-1 to delete records for ShorsStone.
  • When this is done, close TES5Edit and save the modified plugin.

  • The records in the plugin that were not removed replace vanilla chimneys with ones from Farmhouse Chimneys.

    Expanded Towns and Cities Modular[edit]

    The Modular version of this mod is used since REGS does not install some of the locations.FIve of the locations

    • Darkwater Crossing
    • Riverwood
    • Rorikstead
    • Falkreath
    • Whiterun Exterior Market

    have conflicts with Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul.

  • The Stonehills settlement is not installed since the village added by Cutting Room Floor is already large enough for a small mining village and the ETaC additions seem unnecessary given the presence of the CRF-added buildings.

  • Leaving out ETaC Stonehills removes the previous REGS compatibility issue with Inns and Taverns.

    Mod Installation for Expanded Towns and Cities Modular 14.2.0[edit]

    This will install ETaC Modular v14.2.0. After it is installed it will be updated to v14.2.10.

    ETaC v 14.2.10 Update[edit]

    This file should be installed after the ETaC modular file is installed. This will update ETaC to version 14.2.10

    After installation right click on the ETaC v 14.2 Update mod and Open with explorer. Also right clock on the mod folder for the previously installed Expanded Towns and Cities Modular and Open with explorer. Copy the files from the ETaC v 14.2 Update folder into the folder with Expanded Towns and Cities Modular, overwriting any old files. This updates the main mod folder from v14.2.0 to v14.2.10.

    The ETaC v 14.2 Update folder should now be unchecked in MO as it will no longer be needed.

    Expanded Towns and Cities Modular Patches version 14.2.8[edit]

    The mods that have ETaC patches need to be installed before installing the ETaC modular patches. The ETaC Modular Patches FOMOD detects the presence of these mods and changes the menu if they are not present. The following mods in STEP, REGS, or mentioned in REGS have ETaC patches and should be installed before installing the modular patches:

    ETaC Related Merges[edit]

    Background[edit]

    The procedures for merging the modular versions of ETaC and it's patches are described on the ETaC Nexus page in Forum 5: Merging Files in TES5Edit. These step by step insructions provide the most complete available set of the additional steps needed after merging to get a merged plugin ready for use, especially when the original plugins have multiple masters and/or navmesh records.

    • Unfortunately the ETaC author let her Photobucket subscription expire so the pictures that help understand the procedure are no longer available.
    • These instructions were built for the older Merge Plugins xEdit Script and have not been updated for the newer Merge Plugins standalone program used for this pack. There are some differences when the newer standalone version of Merge Plugins is used. The most noticeable change is that there is no longer a capability to force No Renumbering of FormIDs; fortunately Merge Plugins always does this if possible. In addition, Merge Plugins takes care of creating the SEQ folder and contents during the merge.

    Merging ETaC 14.2.10[edit]

    NOTE:
    ETaC - Dragon Bridge South.esp should NOT be merged with the other modular ETaC location plugins; it should be left as a standalone plugin.

    Locations Included in Merged File[edit]

    Files to merge using Merge Plugins from the installed version of modular ETaC 14.2.10:

    • ETaC - Dawnstar.esp

    • ETaC - Ivarstead.esp
    • ETaC - Karthwasten.esp
    • ETaC - Kynesgrove.esp
    • ETaC - Morthal.esp

    Merge Plugins Setup[edit]

    For the ETaC Modular plugin and the ETaC modular plugins merge it is best to check the Copy general assets box on the Integrations tab of Settings of Merge Plugins. When these merges are done it is a good idea to uncheck this setting since all the other merges in the pack need this setting.

    Run Merge Plugins[edit]

  • Ideally the above plugins are temporarily at the bottom of the load order. When starting Merge Plugins right click and select no plugins, then add (checkmark) these plugins and finally add any dependent plugins (shown in red); these should be ETaC - RESOURCES.esm and the vanilla Skyrim esms.
  • Create a new merge called ETaC REGS Merged with plugin name ETaC - Complete.esp, add the plugins to the merger, then execute the merger. An error message will mention that the navmesh record in the merged plugin needs to be rebuilt.
  • Check Results[edit]

  • Use Open with Explorer on the mod file with the ETaC plugins. Copy ETaC - RESOURCES.esm and ETaC - Dragon Bridge South.esp to the ETaC REGS Merged mod, then deactivate the mod file with the modular plugins and activate ETaC REGS Merged.
  • 'Merge Plugins should have added a new SEQ file for the merged plugin. Check the SEQ folder in the mod to make sure ETAC - Complete.seq is present. If there is then any other SEQ files for the individual plugins can be deleted.
  • Rebuild Navigation Mesh Info Map (NAVI) Record[edit]

  • Start TES5Edit selecting only the ETAC - Complete.esp plugin. Select the plugin and check for erors, then remove the Navigation Mesh Info Map record. Close TES5Edit saving the revised plugin.
  • Etac Dragon Bridge Southeast

  • Now start the Creation Kit from MO. Click file on the menu bar then select data. When the data menu loads, double click on the merged plugin and set the plugin as active, then click OK to open the file.
  • When errors popup click Yes to All or Ignore as needed until the plugin data shows on the screen.
  • Hit Ctrl-S to save the plugin then exit the Creation Kit.
  • For some users after repairing the NAVI record the ETaC - Complete.esp file will be in Overwrite in MO vs. the ETaC REGS Merged folder. If this happens move the ETaC - Complete.esp file from Overwrite to the ETaC REGS Merged folder.
  • Open TES5Edit selecting only the merged plugin and check for errors; there should not be any errors and there should be a new Navigation Mesh Info Map (NAVI) record. Close TES5Edit.

  • Whew. The ETaC - Complete.esp merged plugin and merged ETaC resources are now ready for use.

    Merging the ETaC Modular Patches[edit]

  • Activate the file with the modular patches.
  • For convenience move all of the modular patch plugins can be temporarily moved to the end of the load order.
  • The modular ETaC patches will have master file names from the individual ETaC locations. Since ETaC - Complete.esp is now active, the modular ETaC patches now have red checks since they are missing a master file. Using one of the two methods from Changing Master File Names in Plugins change the modular ETaC plugin master file names (e.g., Immersive Orc Strongholds.esp) for each of the modular patch files to ETAC - Complete.espand save the resulting files.
    When all of the files have been changed there should not be any ETaC patch files with red checks.
  • Move the ETaC - Winterhold EWDR Patch.esp, ETaC - Karthwasten Taverns Patch.esp, and ETaC - Shors Stone Taverns Patch.esp to Optional ESPs for now.
  • These patches contain NAVI records and have multiple masters. They can be merged but it is quite complicated; details are available in the ETaC page mentioned above. There are only three so it is usually easier to use them without merging.
  • Holidays ETaC Patches[edit]

    If the Holidays mod isn't used move to the next subsection.
    Activate the Holidays and Holidays - ETaC Patches mods. For convenience move the four Holidays modular patch plugins near the end of the load order with the rest of the ETaC modular patches.

    Merge the ETaC patches[edit]

  • As with the previous merges, when starting Merge Plugins right click and select no plugins, then add (check) all of the ETaC patch plugins including the Holidays ones if they are present.
  • Add (check) any dependent plugins (shown in red).
  • Create a new merge named ETaC REGS Pattches Merged with a plugin name of ETaC - Complete Patches.esp.

  • The plugins being merged include:
    • ETaC - Dawnstar Atlas Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Dawnstar BFT Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Dawnstar LoS Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Dawnstar NoSnow Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Dragon Bridge LoS Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Ivarstead LoS Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Karthwasten LoS Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Kynesgrove LoS Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Morthal BFT Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Morthal LoS Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Morthal NoSnow Patch.esp
    • ETaC - Shors Stone BFT Patch.esp

  • After completing the merge close Merge Plugins, deactivate the Holidays - ETaC Patches mod if it is present.
  • In the ETaC Patches mod move all of the patches into Optional ESPs that are now included in the new merged patch.
  • Move the three patches that were in Optional ESPs back to the main folder so they can be used.
  • Activate the ETaC REGS Patches Merged mod.
  • Now return to the main REGS page.
